Hells Canyon boasts some of the best small mouth bass fishing on the planet. 60+ fish days are not uncommon. These feisty fish are great on a spinning rod or with a little instruction. They are great fun to catch on flies. There are 2-3 fishermen per boat which gives you plenty of time and space to fish all day. There is also time to try your luck at sturgeon fishing. There is nothing like fighting an 8 foot prehistoric fish. When your arms start to hurt sit back relax, take in the amazing scenery of Hells Canyon, and have a cold drink. There is also plenty of time for hiking, and exploring the Canyon’s history. Abandoned homesteader cabins, panoramic view points, and ancient pictographs are just some of the sites you will see.

Included in the trip: 2 guests per boat with a guide, all fishing equipment (including sturgeon and steelhead gear), deluxe camp set up by gear boatman, prep and storage of game, sleeping gear including sleeping bag, pads with cot, water tight bags, all meals, snacks, a modest supply of beer and wine, soft drinks, and a dining tent.

The Day Before
Travel to Cambridge, ID. You will receive information in our email orientation packet, as well as a phone call/zoom call if needed. You will have a chance to answer last minute questions. Dinner is on your own.

Day 1
A representative from HCR will meet you at 7:00AM Mountain Time, at the Frontier Motel. Watertight bags and containers will be distributed, as well as breakfast, served by a local cafe in Cambridge. After breakfast we depart from the hotel by 8:00AM to the launch site in Hells Canyon. When you arrive, the guides have the boats ready to go. After a short safety orientation we finish strapping down our gear and launch for the trip of a lifetime. The day is spent fishing, chasing chukars, and lots of fishing.

Each day we stop for a riverside lunch break around noon.  If the group wants to split up for the day bag lunches are also an option. We arrive in camp around 5:00 – 6:00PM.  You walk up into camp to find your tents set and your gear bags packed up.  Dinner is started, and you can settle in for the night.

Day 2
You arise to the aroma of fresh coffee and sizzling bacon. Breakfast is served around 7:00.  While the guides clean up the kitchen and other gear there is time to pack your personal gear, go for a morning hunt from camp.  We will come around and take down your tents, as they are cleaned out.  We usually get on the river about the same time the sun peaks over the canyon rim.  Hells Canyon is the deepest gorge in North America, so it is about 9:30 before we see sun on the water.  Today there is ample opportunity to walk the river trails, and fishing from the boats for steelhead, and bass.  After lunch and maybe some sturgeon fishing we cruise through some smaller rapids and calm water.

Day 3
Breakfast and lunch are on the same schedule.  The canyon opens up a little.  Chukars like the open grassy areas, with steep rocks behind.  The last night is spent telling stories around the campfire.  After a great dinner, we wander off to bed.

The 4th Day
There is still plenty of opportunity to fish as we make our way to historic Kirkwood Ranch where we have our last lunch together. From there we will load up on a jet boat and make our way backup river to our launching point Hells Canyon Dam. From there we provide transportation back to the Frontier Motel where we will assist you in unloading your bags and one last photo.
